Daily Star - Acevedo Highlights Spain's Efforts For Gender Equality

BEIRUT: On the occasion of the International Day of Women, Spanish Ambassador Juan Carlos Gafo Acevedo stressed the importance that Spain attached to gender equality and eradication of all forms of discrimination against women, both on a bilateral basis and as current Presidency of the EU. He said as the head of the EU, Spain’s top priorities were “the eradication of any kind of violence against women, the provision of protection and social assistance to women victims of violence and the promotion of labor equality. The progressive elimination of discrimination against women in the labor market is being addressed not only from a social justice perspective but also from the point of view of efficiency and economic profitability, since women are mainly affected by instability, precariousness and wage gaps,” Acevedo said. He said “conciliation and co-responsibility” were “crucial to ensure more women have access to the labor market without renouncing motherhood by promoting shared social and family responsibilities between women and men.” – The Daily Star
