Security Source to Naharnet: Roumieh Prison Quarrel Contained, No Casualties
A verbal brawl erupted Friday at Roumieh jail between guards and prisoners demanding longer visiting hours with their families.
State-run National News Agency, which carried the report, did not give further details.
However, a security source told Naharnet that "the inmates were squirming over several demands they had requested from the prison administration," denying reports about any casualties.
The source stressed that "the ambulances that were seen on TV entering the prison were part of regular preventative measures."
He declared that the security forces managed to contain the quarrel after a short time.
Earlier, MTV network reported information about a riot inside the detainees section of Roumieh prison, adding that security forces managed to contain it.
Other media reports said security forces managed to contain the riot, which was started by "Fatah al-Islam inmates" inside the detainees section of Roumieh prison, after the intervention of a large number of prison guards.
