July 21, 2010 - Now Lebanon - De Freige: We have confidence in the STL

Lebanon First bloc MP Nabil de Freige told the Voice of Lebanon (VOL) radio station on Wednesday that his bloc has confidence in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)’s work.

This comes after the war of words that followed Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s accusation last week that the tribunal is an Israeli project aiming to incite sectarian strife in Lebanon.

De Freige also called on the parties to maintain a calm atmosphere in Lebanon.

“Questions about the STL should be asked through [state] institutions,” De Freige added.

Reports that the tribunal would indict Hezbollah members over the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri have sparked tension in Lebanon.
