July 21, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Hashem: Geagea gambling on STL for ulterior motives

Development and Liberation bloc MP Qassem Hashem said on Wednesday that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea is betting on “those investing in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) to target Lebanon and [promote] Israeli-US aims.”

This comes after Geagea questioned during a Tuesday interview with MTV the reasons behind the March 8 coalition’s opposition to the STL, adding that March 8 wants to “put Prime Minister Saad Hariri in the corner so he will give up on the tribunal.”

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah last week accused the STL of being an “Israeli project” designed to target the Resistance by stirring up sectarian strife in Lebanon.

Hashem also questioned why telephone land lines between Beirut and South Lebanon stopped working without explanation.

“Why are [we witnessing] such delays in fixing [the problem]?” Hashem asked.

Al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday that phone lines are malfunctioning between Beirut and the South.

The daily also said that Hezbollah is concerned the error may have been deliberate.
