July 24, 2010 - Now Lebanon - US official: STL will not stop until Hariri killers brought to justice

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) will continue its work until former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s killers are brought to justice, An-Nahar newspaper quoted on Saturday a US State Department official as saying.

The official, who was not named, expressed his government’s confidence that the STL will bring to justice those who planned, carried out and funded Hariri’s2005 assassination.

Commenting on Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s claim on Thursday that PM Saad Hariri told him back in May that the STL will name Hezbollah members in its pending indictment, the official said, “The US fully supports the STL’s work. We are confident that it will pursue its constructive and professional work. The US will remain a strong supporter of the STL’s role in working to end protection for political assassinations in Lebanon.”

He added that the US donated $20 million toward the STL’s expenses.
