July 29, 2010 - Now Lebanon - King Abdullah will stay out of STL details, says Saudi minister

A Saudi minister who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz might address matters related to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) during his Beirut visit on Friday, but only “from a strategic perspective and without going into too much detail,” Saudi newspaper Al-Watan reported on Thursday.

Both the monarch and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad are expected in Beirut on Friday, along with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.

The visits are widely seen as an attempt to ease tensions after Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said last week the STL will name Hezbollah members in its pending indictment into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, which sparked fears a new sectarian conflict will break out.
