Ad-Diyar newspaper quoted on Friday an unnamed source as saying that Friday’s summit between Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and President Michel Sleiman will not tackle the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).
This comes after media reports said that the summit would discuss the matter in question. Abdullah’s and Assad’s visit is widely seen as an attempt to ease tension after Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said last week the tribunal will name Hezbollah members in its pending indictment into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, which sparked fears of a new sectarian conflict.
According to the daily, there are international attempts to postpone the STL indictment until after September.
