Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun’s statements criticizing President Michel Sleiman are due to Aoun’s doubts related to the case of the retired Brigadier General Fayez Karam- an FPM official who was arrested in August on charges of spying for Israel- Ad-Diyar newspaper quoted an unnamed FPM source as saying on Thursday.
In a fiery speech on Sunday, Aoun criticized the government and asked what Sleiman “is doing after his constitutional speech besides weeping?”
An Internal Security Forces’ (ISF) officer, assigned by Aoun to follow up on Karam’s investigation, was informing Aoun of certain details related to the investigation, the daily quoted, adding that this officer told Aoun that cameras would be turned off when a critical matter was brought up during the investigation
Karam’s family informed Aoun last week that they were not allowed to let a doctor examine Karam who suffers from a backache, the source also said, adding that this led to Aoun’s suspicions that there are attempts to get to him and to his political movement.
