The insistence of some that there are no witnesses who gave false testimonies to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) investigating ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination “undermines Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s words,” Development and Liberation bloc MP Hani Qobeissy said at a celebration on Monday, according to the National News Agency (NNA).
PM Hariri told As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper in an interview published on September 26 that some people misled the STL investigation and thereby damaged Syrian-Lebanese relations.
However, Education Minister Hassan Mneimneh – who is also a member of the Future Movement – told LBCI on Sunday that the STL will determine whether there were false witnesses after it issues its indictment, although, he added, some political forces would like to use the false witness card against the tribunal.
