Now Lebanon - Moussa: STL would gain credibility if it clarified false witnesses issue - September 7, 2010

Development and Liberation bloc MP Michel Moussa told the Voice of Lebanon (VOL) radio station on Tuesday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) would become more credible if it clarified the issues of the testimonies of false witnesses to the tribunal.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s statements to As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper were very important, he said, adding that all political parties must work to calm the political situation.

In an interview with As-Sharq al-Awsat published on Monday, Hariri said that accusations that Syria was behind the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri were political in nature.

Some people misled the STL’s investigation and thereby damaged Syrian-Lebanese relations and politicized the assassination, Hariri also told the daily.

The cabinet delegated Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar on August 18 to follow up on the issue of the tribunal’s false witnesses.
