Now Lebanon - Qadiri favors putting STL false witnesses on trial - September 7, 2010

Lebanon First bloc MP Ziad al-Qadiri told OTV on Tuesday that if false witnesses gave testimony to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), then his bloc will be among the first to call for a trial on the matter.

In an interview with As-Sharq al-Awsat published on Monday, Prime Minister Saad Hariri said that accusations that Syria was behind the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri were political in nature.

Some people misled the STL’s investigation and thereby damaged Syrian-Lebanese relations and politicized the assassination, Hariri also told the daily.

Qadiri also said that Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun’s Sunday statement do not serve to calm the political atmosphere.

In a fiery speech on Sunday, Aoun criticized the government and asked what President Michel Sleiman “is doing after his constitutional speech besides weeping?”
