Now Lebanon - Sayyed summons recklessly “throws oil on the fire,” LDP says - September 16, 2010

Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar’s appointment of Attorney General Judge Said Mirza to summon former head of General Security Jamil as-Sayyed for questioning is a reckless and unwise decision that “throws oil on the fire,” according to a statement issued by the Lebanese Democratic Party (LDP) on Thursday. LDP leader MP Talal Arslan has called President Michel Sleiman to ask that the decision be withdrawn, the statement added.

The LDP called on Najjar to withdraw the decision “immediately and without delay,” adding that he will be responsible for “whatever dangerous fallout this decision causes.”

An-Nahar newspaper reported that Mirza, at Najjar’s request, has called on the Criminal Investigations Bureau to question Sayyed regarding his “threats against the Lebanese state, judiciary and Prime Minister Saad Hariri.”

Sayyed said on Sunday that “[PM Saad Hariri] should take a lie detector test to prove he did not support or fund false witnesses in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL),” investigating the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri. The former General Security chief also vowed to take his right “with his own hands.”
