Now Lenanon - Sakr: Hariri is not accusing Hezbollah of killing his father - September 8, 2010

In an interview published on Wednesday in Kuwaiti As-Seyassah newspaper, Lebanon First bloc MP Okab Sakr said that Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s statements to As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper do not signify that the premier is accusing Hezbollah of being behind the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri.

In an interview with As-Sharq al-Awsat published on Monday, Hariri said that some people misled the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) investigation and thereby damaged Syrian-Lebanese relations and politicized the assassination.

The PM also said that accusations that Syria was behind the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri were political in nature.

“Hariri’s statements should not be misinterpreted,” Sakr added.

He called on political parties to respond positively to Hariri’s statements, adding that he thinks Hezbollah is the party most concerned about responding positively.

“Hezbollah should realize that Hariri is doing his best to prevent a foreign scheme from dividing Lebanon and the region by inciting Sunni-Shia conflict,” the MP added.
