The Daily Star - Politics - Suspect in attacks on journalists in Tripoli arrested

BEIRUT: A man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of his involvement in attacking journalists and damaging the offices of a social foundation in Tripoli.
The government commissioner at the Military Tribunal, Judge Saqr Saqr, ordered the detention of the person, after which investigations began with him on suspicion that he was among a group that attempted to torch a floor for the Safadi Foundation in Tripoli. The foundation is affiliated with caretaker Economy and Trade Minister Mohammad Safadi.
The detainee is also suspected to have been involved in burning a Satellite News Gathering (SNG) vehicle owned by Al-Jazeera television station and assaulting journalists from the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV.
Two other individuals were arrested by the Tripoli police Saturday and referred to judiciary over their suspected involvement in torching Al-Jazeera’s SNG vehicle.
The detainees were identified by their initials as M.W. and A.A.
