iloubnan - Fayez Karam appears in military court - February 23, 2011

General Fayez Karam, suspected of collaboration with Israel and under arrest as of August 11, appeared Tuesday in the permanent military court which revoked formal defenses submitted by Karam's attorneys for "illegitimacy."

In its revocation, the court found the investigations by the Information Branch "reliable and consistent"-however contested by Karam's attorneys-while Karam belied his former confessions during his interrogation.

The retired General confirmed he confessed "under pressure". "I talked as they were beating me. They even threatened to torture me before my wife and children's bare eyes."

Karam said his arrest by the Information Branch stems from a personal dispute with Wissam Hassan and aims at a "political condemnation."

The court decided to put off the session until forthcoming April 21st.

Change and Reform Bloc's MPs Ghassan Moukhaiber, Naji Gharios, Hikmat Dib, Nabil Nicolas, and Michel Helou attended the session.
