Now Lebanon - Najjar: Qaddafi’s trial in Sadr case may require international summons - February 25, 2011

“The trial of [Libyan leader Moammar] Qaddafi in the case of the disappearance of [Amal Movement founder] Imam Moussa Sadr and his companion will be like any other criminal trial,” Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar said on Thursday.
“If a trial in absentia occurs in Lebanon or a summons are issued against Qaddafi, it will require an international summons,” he told NBN television.
“The court determines the steps that it will take, such as notifying the defendant,” he said.
“I will ask the Foreign Ministry to gather information about the kidnapping in order to enrich the investigation.”
The Amal Movement claims that Libya is complicit for the 1978 disappearance of its founder, Sadr. Qaddafi has repeatedly denied involvement.
Protests have rocked Libya over the past week calling for Qaddafi’s resignation. He ordered his followers Tuesday to crush the uprising.
A former Libyan envoy said in an article published in Al-Hayat’s Wednesday edition that Sadr “was shot and killed during his visit to Libya in 1978.”
