The Daily Star - Justice group calls for swift action at Roumieh - May 14, 2011

BEIRUT: The Association of Justice and Mercy urged the government Friday to take swift action to improve the deteriorating situation at the Roumieh prison, a week after inmates began a hunger strike.
“Given this dangerous situation, AJEM pleads with all responsible authorities to carry out their duties and arrange medical treatment for the inmates, who are practicing their sacred right,” said the statement released by AJEM. The NGO called on the government to provide larger medical facilities for inmates. “We call on all responsible sides to deal with the matter in a serious and positive manner … especially after the number of patients who need treatment has exceeded the capacity of prison infirmaries,” the statement added. In April, inmates at Roumieh rioted over poor conditions.
