The Daily Star - Police confiscate illicit material from Roumieh - May 16, 2011

BEIRUT: Police confiscated 210 pills, 15 grams of cannabis and two mobile phone SIM cards, which were being smuggled into Roumieh prison over the weekend.
The items were confiscated after the prison’s police tightened its search measures following recent riots at the complex, which ended in the injury of several inmates and the death of two prisoners.

At least 20 inmates of Roumieh prison, mainly prisoners on hunger strike demanding general amnesty, were hospitalized Friday evening.

The number of inmates on hunger strike has risen to 2,373, since 2,000 began the hunger strike last week.
