he Foundation of Human and Humanitarian Rights in Lebanon (FHHRL) on Monday issued a statement condemning the cabinet-formation delay and describing it as a violation of human rights.
The delay in the cabinet formation violates Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that “the people’s will is the source of the government’s authority,” the statement added.
In the short term, the delay negatively impacts the political and civil rights of the people; while in the long term, it negatively affects their economic and social conditions, the statement also said.
FHHRL also denounced the prioritizing of private interests over public ones.
Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati has not yet formed his cabinet despite reports last week that President Michel Sleiman and Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun had agreed on the nomination of three candidates for the Interior Ministry portfolio which has been reportedly delaying cabinet formation.
