The Jamaa al-Islamiya group called for helping the displaced Syrians coming into Lebanon as anti-regime protests have spread across Syria since mid-March.
“The displaced Syrians entering Lebanon from the northern borders should be helped and granted assistance,” group official Azzam al-Ayoubi said.
He also said that the handover of Syrians to their government “makes Lebanon a partner in what harms [the Syrians].”
He added that his party will appoint rights activists to prevent such steps.
Protests against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime have rocked Syria for almost two months. Between 600 and 700 people have been killed and at least 8,000 arrested since the start of the protest movements in mid-March, human rights groups say. Hundreds of Syrians have fled to Lebanon.
There were reports that two Syrian border guards, one dead and another injured, were handed over by Lebanon to Syrian authorities.
