iloubnan - Karam: dealing with tribunal is essential - June 23, 2011

State Minister Salim Karam told Voice of Lebanon on Thursday that dealing with the international tribunal is essential and serious because everybody is under the international law.

"Many years has passed since the tribunal was founded and nothing came out of it yet. Why do we leave the country hanging in the balance indefinitely until the indictment is issued?," the minister said.

Karam hoped that all sides will not anticipate things before the indictment is issued in order to know how to deal with it.

"If the decisions of the tribunal are politicized after showing evidence that it has been actually politicized then this will create a problem and differences and the cabinet cannot accept a politicized tribunal", he added.

He denied reports that the cabinet intends to target public employees who are affiliated with certain political groups.

Responding to a question about the criticism for MP Michel Aoun's remarks, Karam said: "the agony which the Lebanese citizen is experiencing and the stolen money is much more important that the positions of Aoun." He added that "There won't be such a name as March 8 from now but rather the state's team that will work a lot and talk little."
