Now Lebanon - Siniora condemns banning of Iranian film in Lebanon - June 23, 2011

Future bloc leader MP Fouad Siniora issued a statement on Thursday condemning the Lebanese authorities’ decision to ban the screening of the Iranian film “Green Days,” which deals with protests against the 2009 re-election of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
This movie’s screening was permitted by the previous cabinet, but “it was banned by the newly-formed one-sided cabinet,” the statement said.
“The decision made us wonder about the motives of the restrictions and the danger of targeting the freedom of expression in the country,” the statement quoted Siniora as saying.
Siniora also called on the cabinet to reconsider the ban, which he added is a real threat to the freedom of expression in Lebanon, according to the statement.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced last week the formation of a new 30-member cabinet, in which an alliance led by Hezbollah - which is close to Iran - holds the majority.
