The Daily Star - Human Rights committee follows up prison worries - August 12, 2011
BEIRUT: The Human Rights parliamentary committee held a meeting Thursday to follow up on prison conditions, according to the National News Agency.
MP Michel Moussa, who headed the committee, said that the government bears great responsibility concerning the issue of the prolonged and continuous negligence in prisons.
“We have witnessed very slow progress, so we reiterate our demands today to speed up in resolving all the multifaceted issues which prisons are suffering from,” Moussa said, adding that it was the responsibility of both the interior and defense ministries.
According to Moussa, from a legislative angle, some draft laws concerning prisons that were not previously approved will be re-examined by the Justice and Administrative Committee.
