The Daily Star - ICRC visit to Syrian jails criticized as incomplete - September 08, 2011

BEIRUT: Several Lebanese humanitarian organizations voiced their criticism of the International Committee for the Red Cross visit to Syrian prisons Tuesday, describing the visit as an incomplete as it failed to investigate the fate of Lebanese detainees in secret Syrian jails.
The Human Rights Institution, the Committee of Freed Political Prisoners from Syrian Jails and the Committee of the Families of Detainees issued a joint statement Wednesday saying the ICRC delegation’s visit to Syrian prisons should have included all jails, including secret detention centers.
Officials of the ICRC visited detainees in the central prison in the Damascus suburb of Adra over two days, according to statement from ICRC president Jakob Kellenberger, who also expressed hope that the committee would “soon be able to visit all prisons.”
