Iloubnan - STL continuation does not depend on Lebanese funding, says Fatfat, September 27, 2011
Future bloc member MP Ahmad Fatfat told Al-Fajr radio station that the declarations of Prime minister Najib Mikati about his commitment to international resolutions, particularly the special tribunal, are nothing but personal stances which do not reflect the government's position. "The special tribunal's continuation is not depending on the Lebanese funding," he confirmed. Fatfat mentioned Hezbollah's refusal to fund the tribunal yet focused on the Free Patriotic Movement's keenness to this stance. "Even if Hezbollah agrees to fund the STL, the FPM will not," the Deputy noted, estimating that the cabinet would have to ratify the funding without Hezbollah Ministers' approval, reminding that "Lebanon owes the international community which is paying for the UNIFIL an amount of one billion dollars every year." He finally pointed that Premier Mikati's main challenge is to prove to the opposition that the cabinet is truly led by him and not by Hezbollah and Syria.
