NOW Lebanon- UNHCR: 3,789 Syrian refugees in Lebanon, December 4, 2011

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that there are currently 3,789 Syrian refugees registered with the organization and the High Relief Commission (HRC) in Lebanon, the National News Agency reported on Sunday.
The statement said aid, including food, fuel and clothes have been distributed to the refugees for the month of November.
In its weekly report about the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the UNHCR added that the refugees are worried about the situation in Syria’s Tal Kalkh, which is near the border with Lebanon.
“According to reports, Syrian army forces are heavily deployed on the border. There are also reports that there are mines planted on the Syrian side. These measures can lead to the [decrease] of the number of people [capable] of fleeing [to Lebanon].”
Thousands of Syrians have fled violence in their country for Lebanon, while the Syrian army has made a number of armed incursions into Lebanese territory starting in October.
The United Nations estimates that more than 4,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the Syrian government's crackdown on dissent since mid-March.
