BEIRUT: The National Commission for Lebanese Women announced Wednesday the activities it would be launching to mark International Women’s Day including a national campaign for supporting women in decision- and peace-making, the National News Agency reported.
The committee’s vice president Randa Berri, the wife of Speaker Nabih Berri, addressed “an open invitation to the media [to join the commission] in spreading awareness on women’s participation in the state and society at the level of decision making.
According to Berri, this mission requires the commission to provide information and the media to shed light on women’s marginalization and call for strengthening her political, economic and social participation.
Berri added that the campaign would be officially launched in coordination with civil society groups during a ceremony in the southern city of Tyre on March 8, which marks International Women’s Day.
