The Daily Star - Islamist, 5 others charged with belonging to "armed terrorist group", May 14 2012

BEIRUT: Military Prosecutor Saqr Saqr charged Monday Shadi Mawlawi and five other Lebanese suspects with belonging to an “armed terrorist group.”
Gunbattles broke out after tension spiked Saturday over the arrest of Mawlawi, an Islamist, on charges of maintaining ties to a “terrorist group.”
Saqr charged Mawlawi and the five other unidentified suspects with “belonging to an armed terrorist organization with the intent to carry out crimes against people as well as public and private institutions.”
The suspects were also accused of “undermining sate authority and plotting to carry out terrorist acts inside and outside of Lebanon.”
They were referred to Military Investigative Judge Riad Abu Ghida after arrest warrants were issued against them.
Judicial sources told The Daily Star that the suspects, including Mawlawi, belong to Al-Qaeda.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said security services were also pursuing several other Lebanese and Syrian nationals for belonging to Al-Qaeda.
