The Daily Star - Jreissati highlights need to combat child labor, May 9 2012

BEIRUT: Labor Minister Salim Jreissati said Tuesday that his ministry is working to combat child labor, calling the effort a “national responsibility,” the National News Agency reported.

Jreissati was speaking during a meeting he headed for the National Committee to Combat Child Labor. During the meeting, a sub-committee was formed to study legislation on child rights and strengthen the role of inspectors at the Labor Ministry and the National Social Security Fund in order to follow up on the situation of child laborers and offer them needed assistance.

Jreissati highlighted the need to activate the work of the committee which implements programs to combat child labor in coordination with the International Labor Organization.

Jreissati also underlined “the need to continue efforts to amend the labor law in order to guarantee following up on child laborers in unorganized sectors.”
