BEIRUT:
The Samir Kassir eyes (SKeyes) media center condemned Thursday two attacks
against a freelance photographer who was taking pictures of the clashes in
Tripoli Tuesday.
SKeyes
issued a statement calling on all parties to respect the media’s freedom to
report news.
According
to the statement, journalist Sohaib Ayyoub, who freelances for a number of
newspapers including An-Nahar, was attacked twice by two groups of men during
the few hours he spent taking pictures in Tripoli.
Ayyoub
was forced the first time to erase the photos he took in exchange for the men
returning his camera.
During the second attack,
he was taken by a group of men, interrogated and threatened, the center said,
adding that he was released three hours later, after his attackers confirmed he
was a journalist.
