The Daily Star - Bangladeshi domestic worker in apparent suicide north of Beirut, June 13 2012

BEIRUT: A Bangladeshi domestic worker was found dead Wednesday at an employment agency in Jbeil, north of Beirut, in what appears to be a suicide.

The woman, 27, was found hanged. The office curtains, apparently used as a noose, were around her neck. The woman was identified as Seana Gholam Mustafa Akhtar.

Police launched an investigation into the case and began questioning employees at the agency. The official cause of death will be announced following a planned autopsy.

Hours after the news of the incident surfaced, Labor Minister Salim Jreissati contacted Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi and the prosecutor’s office.

According to Jreissati's office, the woman might have committed suicide and the Labor Ministry is following up on the investigation.

The office added that the woman had arrived in Lebanon just days ago.
