The Daily Star - Lebanese baby girl apparently beaten to death by parents, June 14 2012

BEIRUT: A three-month-old girl was pronounced dead upon arrival at Saint Therese hospital in Hadath, Mount Lebanon, where she had been brought by her parents, security sources told The Daily Star.

The body of the girl, identified as Farah Hawana, was covered in bruises, leading doctors to suspect that she had been beaten to death. The hospital promptly informed security services of the doctors’ suspicions.

The girl’s parents, Mahmoud Abdel-Razzaq Hawana and Mariam Nabil Hazeni, have been arrested as part of the investigation, the sources added.

“We will take legal measures, and anyone proven guilty will not escape punishment,” said Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour.
