Now Lebanon - Parliament reaches agreement on EDL workers, spending, July 2 2012


The parliament reached an agreement on Monday to permanently employ hourly-wage workers at Electricité Du Liban after conducting an assessment of the employees to select those competent for hiring.
The report added that the Civil Service Board would supervise the competition.
EDL hourly-wage workers have staged numerous protests demanding appointment as full-time employees at the EDL.

The parliament also approved a draft law to reduce the amount of government spending for 2012, worth 11.56 trillion L.L., by 20 percent to 9.25 trillion L.L.
The legislative body is scheduled to resume its second session on Tuesday.
