The Daily Star - Sudanese refugees agree to liquids amid hunger strike, July 10 2012

BEIRUT: The Sudanese refugees who have been on hunger strike outside UNHCR for a month have temporary called off a plan to refuse liquids. “Initially, we were planning to refuse liquids last Monday, but a doctor warned us against the health consequences of the move,” Milad Suleiman, one of the strikers, told The Daily Star. The strikers’ demands include a faster process for determining refugee or asylum status and quicker response from states where registered refugees are assigned for resettlement. Suleiman said that “as a protest move, we refused liquids from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today,” adding that “if no one responds to our demands, we will stop drinking liquids completely Wednesday.” Monday was 30th day without food for the 21 strikers.
