The Daily Star - Turkey draws criticism over handling of hostages, July 7 2012

BEIRUT: Turkey has failed to show “seriousness” about the case of Lebanese Shiite pilgrims who were kidnapped in Syria, an official tasked with following up on the case said Friday. In a statement, Sheikh Abbas Zogheib said Turkey should live up to its promises to end the kidnapping. Zogheib, who has been tasked by the Higher Shiite Council with following up on the attempts to secure the hostages’ release, said “the Lebanese have adhered to what the Turks asked for, in terms of keeping the case out of the media.” However, he said Ankara had “failed to deal with the issue seriously, which will have negative consequences for Turkey and the region.” Thirteen Lebanese nationals were kidnapped in May during their return from a pilgrimage to holy sites in Iraq.
