NowLebanon - LF condemns deportation of Syrian “activists”, August 3 2012

The Lebanese Forces on Thursday condemned the deportation of Syrian “opposition activists” back to their country “amid the absence of any law or judiciary that protects the rights of [those] under the control of the current regime,” a statement issued by the LF media office reported.
“The excuses [presented by the General Security] should only lead to referring them to the Lebanese judiciary and not the Syrian judiciary, especially amid the tragedy happening in Syria,” the statement added.
The LF also considered what happened illustrative of partiality with the Syrian regime against the Syrian people.
Earlier on Thursday, Lebanon deported 14 Syrians despite the raging violence over the border, drawing criticism from human rights activists.

The Lebanese authorities said the reasons for the expulsions were not political but a Human Rights Watch representative in Beirut said some of the deportees had expressed fears of persecution upon their return.
Lebanon’s political scene is split between supporters of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regime, led by Hezbollah, and the pro-Western March 14 camp.
