Daily Star - Rahhal Discuss Environmental Protection
BEIRUT: US Ambassador Michele Sison discussed cooperation between her country and Lebanon on environmental protection issues during talks with Environment Minister Mohammad Rahhal Thursday, said a US Embassy statement. Sison and Rahhal discussed a number of US-sponsored programs, such as the continuing US support for the water treatment plants in Aitanit and Fourzol. The statement added that there were plans for opening two more plants in Ablah and Chmistar. According to the statement, the US has provided $444,000 in funding for the construction of a fire station in Ehmej in Jbeil to combat forest fires and to help protect and replenish Lebanon’s forests. The US has worked with the Association of Forest Development and Conservation to provide training on forest conservation and to support a public awareness campaign on forest fire prevention. – The Daily Star
