Prime Minister Saad Hariri told members of the Future bloc that he will accept any verdict issued by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), which is to prosecute the perpetrators of the 2005 assassination of his father, former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, Al-Hayat newspaper reported on Saturday.
The paper said that Hariri spoke during the Future bloc’s weekly meeting. Bloc MPs discussed the resumption of political and media campaigns by some March 8 coalition politicians against the STL.
According to Al-Hayat, MPs quoted Hariri as saying, “We were the first to demand the formation of the International Tribunal. We have an interest in its creation. We have announced since the first day of its formation that we will accept any decision taken by it.”
This comes after Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday that an indictment by the STL is an “Israeli project” designed to target Hezbollah by stirring up sectarian strife in Lebanon.
