July 19, 2010 - naharnet - Muallem: Any Syrian Involved in Hariri's Murder Will Be Tried for High Treason

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said any Syrian proven guilty of involvement in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri will be tried for "high treason."
"Syria will remain standing by Lebanon in the face of any Israeli scheme," Muallem said.

A U.N. commission investigating Hariri's murder had said there was converging evidence that Syrian and Lebanese intelligence services were involved in Hariri's killing. Damascus has consistently denied any involvement.

The killing prompted the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon after a 29-year presence.
