Lebanese Forces bloc MP Antoine Zahra told the Voice of Lebanon (VOL) radio station on Monday that the statements claiming the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is politicized aim at abolishing the tribunal.
“Hezbollah wants to politicize the STL,” Zahra said.
He also called to remain calm and wait for the tribunal’s pending indictment.
“Tense statements [made by Lebanese politicians] only affect tourism negatively in Lebanon,” Zahra added.
Tension sparked in Lebanon after reports said the STL would soon issue an indictment.
The tribunal is probing the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. There are reports that some Hezbollah members could be named in the indictment.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah recently accused the STL of being an “Israeli project” designed to target the Resistance by stirring up sectarian strife in Lebanon.
