Visitors quoted Berri as saying that “it is not yet time to discuss the issue of funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon,” reported
Al-Jumhuriya newspaper on Monday.
“It won’t even be [the time] at the end of the month, which many were expecting,” said the visitors according to the daily.
Berri told his visitors that there is still “plenty of time” to make a decision on the issue.
Hezbollah-led March 8 parties – which currently dominate Lebanon’s cabinet – have opposed a clause in the Lebanese annual state budget pertaining to the funding of the tribunal, which is investigating the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Four Hezbollah members have been indicted by the STL. However, the Shia group strongly denied the charges and refuses to cooperate with the court.
