BEIRUT: The women rights campaign, “My Nationality: a Right for me and my Family,” accused politicians Wednesday of using civil rights for their own political and sectarian benefits. A statement accuses politicians of undermining the people, especially when it came to the youth’s right to vote and the coming municipal polls. “In both cases it is obvious the main political factions in Lebanon are acting according to their own sectarian benefits without any care for the people’s economic and social priorities,” it said. The statement added that abolishing sectarianism was a constitutional demand but politicians were avoiding it by raising fears of sectarian dominance and adding terms to law amendments. – The Daily Star
