July 24, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Harb waiting until after STL indictment to take a stance

Labor Minister Boutros Harb told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Saturday that he will take an appropriate position on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) indictment into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri when it is officially announced.

Harb said it is not acceptable to get rid of the STL, adding that international justice is essential to uncovering who is behind the murder. However, Harb warned against using the tribunal for political purposes.

“If the STL deviated from its right path and became a political or criminal tool, all of us would stand against it, not only Hezbollah,” Harb said.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has repeatedly said he does not trust the STL because he believes it is being used for political ends. Last week he called the tribunal an “Israeli project” designed to target his party by inciting sectarian strife.
