BEIRUT – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon ensured that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon was making progress and running no danger at all due to the statements made by the Lebanese officials, an-Nahar daily reported on Tuesday.
The UN chief said the Member States decided themselves to probe the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri and the Security Council set up the investigating commission and established the tribunal.
“We invested lots of time, capabilities and resources to establish the tribunal. Thus, this jurisdiction should be allowed to issue its verdicts in this regard”, Ki-moon stated.
The UN leader Ban Ki-moon stressed the necessity for the tribunal to continue its work as per the competence assigned to it by the Security Council.
