BEIRUT: Rural Lebanese women prepared a range of traditional dishes from homegrown ingredients Friday for a congregation of ambassadors, international donors and business personalities gathered for a fundraising event. The dinner – organized by Oxfam Quebec and the Collective for Research and Training on Development Action (CRTDA), a Lebanese NGO fighting for female empowerment – was held to commemorate International Rural Women’s Day. “Rural women provide a lot to the economy but their work is not readily recognized in official government figures,” said CRTDA project coordinator Roula Masri. “They work exceptionally hard and form the backbone of our society and this event is taking place in recognition of their contribution.” –The Daily Star
