iloubnan- STL-funding was decided by Asad, says Mashnouq, December 3, 2011

March 14 deputy of the House Nuhad Mashnouq, described Hasan Nasrallah's most recent speech as tension-ridden and that STL-funding was decided by Asad of Syria himself.

Interviewed on Voice of Lebanon radio station, the MP regarded the STL option as a fully-acquired right of all Lebanese and constituted the sole venue leading to justice including the resumption of normal political life and cessation of political assassinations.

He attributed the realization of the funding issue to a build-up in domestic, regional and international pressure coming to bear on Mikati in due course.

Mashnouq described the government as being simultaneously confrontational towards oppositionists while serving as a Syrian asset for an increasingly embattled Asad regime. He opted for a resistant state rather than one political group posing as a party of resistance.

The deputy downplayed the significance of any domestic dialogue under constant threat of Hezbollah weapons and growing home-grown anti-regime revolution. Rather than wasting time on signing cooperation protocols with the Syrian government, Masnouq concluded that the Mikati government must resolve to hand over those convicted in Hariri's murder to the STL.
