Now Lebanon - Mikati discusses Syrian refugees with officials, April 4 2012

Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday held a meeting with Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abu Faour, UN High Commissioner for Refugees representative Ninette Kelley and other relevant officials to discuss Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
Following the meeting, Abu Faour said that the attendees discussed the working mechanism between the Lebanese government and the UN refugee agency.
He also told reporters that the premier “stressed that the issue of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon is a humanitarian and nonpolitical situation.”
“It is not in our interests [to drop the issue of Syrian refugees]… Lebanon will not fail to [fulfill its] duties toward [the refugees] without politicizing [this subject], or interfering in Syrian internal affairs.”
Syria has witnessed anti-regime protests since mid-March 2011. The United Nations estimated that more than 9,000 people have been killed in the regime’s crackdown on dissent. Thousands have fled to Lebanon.
