Now Lebanon - Sakr: Hariri will sue Sayyed - September 14, 2010

Lebanon First bloc MP Okab Sakr told New TV on Tuesday that Prime Minister Saad Hariri will sue former head of Lebanon’s General Security Jamil as-Sayyed.

Sayyed said on Sunday during a press conference that “[PM Hariri] should take a lie detector test to prove he did not support or fund false witnesses in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL),” investigating the 2005 murder of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri.

He also warned Hariri to “give me my right, [or] I swear on my honor that I [will] take it with my own hands,” calling on the people to “revolt against authority and attack officials in their houses.”

Sakr said that Sayyed is dangerous to the Lebanese state and threatened Hariri.

The Lebanon First bloc MP also said that he will decide when the time is right to reveal the name of the mediator, who according to Sakr, was dispatched by Sayyed to ask for a settlement from PM Hariri.

Sakr said on Sunday that Sayyed requested a $15 million settlement from Hariri to drop his lawsuit that he filed in Damascus in December 2009 against Lebanese and Syrian public figures for slander, falsifying testimonies and depriving him of his freedom.

“I have enough proof [to back my statement]…Let Sayyed file a lawsuit against me,” Sakr told New TV on Tuesday.

Sayyed was detained from 2005 to 2009 on suspicion of involvement in Rafik Hariri’s murder. In April 2009, the STL ordered his release without charges due to lack of evidence.
