August 1, 2010 - Now Lebanon - No one has the ability to prevent STL’s indictment, says Fatfat

Lebanon First bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat told MTV on Sunday that no one had the ability to prevent the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) from issuing its indictment.

This comes after Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said that the STL’s pending indictment will accuse some of his party members for involvement in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, a scenario that will be rejected.

Nasrallah’s speech sparked a war of words between the March 8 and March 14 alliances and the latter made it clear that it adheres to the STL.

Fatfat said that the indictment should not be judged before it is issued and that no one will accept the indictment if it is not based on facts.

“Those accused of the murder of former PM Rafik Hariri are traitors,” he also said, adding that the Arab leaders’ visit to Lebanon shows the Arabs’ concern over Lebanon’s stability.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz visited Lebanon on Friday in an attempt to ease tension caused by Nasrallah’s speech. Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani also arrived in Lebanon for a three-day visit on Friday to meet with Lebanese leaders.
