August 11, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Gemayel: Eight years of monitoring before assassinating is senseless

Kataeb Party MP Sami Gemayel told MTV on Tuesday that the Saint George area footage – where former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was assassinated in 2005 – presented by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah during his Monday press conference, dates back to 1997. This would mean that Israel had been monitoring Hariri eight years before assassinating him, which according to Gemayel, seems senseless.

Nasrallah presented alleged evidence of Israeli involvement in the assassination of former PM Hariri, including footage he said came from Israeli Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) monitoring Rafik Hariri and a confession from a suspected Israeli spy.

The MP said that Lebanon could uncover who was behind Rafik Hariri’s assassination through the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), adding that the Kataeb party would not accuse anyone before the tribunal issues its indictment.
